Amber Tiede — Lead Floral Designer at Riverwood Gardens in Ottawa, Ontario

About Riverwood Gardens

Built in 1870, this vintage farmhouse in the Ottawa Valley is not only our nest, but the hub and energy source to our way of life. A homestead, sitting solid and welcoming on an open expanse, observing, breathing, fluid yet stable. Peaked roof, wood stacked to the ceiling of the covered entry way and a screened in porch at its back, serving as both a retreat from the heat and a cozy nook to observe the rain. Tall, narrow windows, like watchful eyes taking in sunrises, moonlight and storm clouds piling up like mounds of meringue. This is our shelter, den, burrow.
.
The surrounding two acres of lush, pampered grounds are home to a cornucopia of flowers.
Spring brings the heady scent of French Lilac ,cheerful bobbing of daffodils and elegant dance of graceful tulips.
Summer, the  fragrant English roses, ruffled peonies and an assortment of stunning lilies.
Fall, a kaleidoscope of color and texture with dahlias and mums playing a leading role.
.
Riverwood Gardens, owned and founded by Amber Tiede for more than fifteen years, has been a collaboration of life’s experiences. With teachers such as Jane Packer and the opportunity to work abroad in both Denmark and England, she brings her love of textures and movement to each creation. Incorporating foraged finds along with the abundance of naturally and responsibly raised flowers from the gardens.
.
Along with designing wedding decor both locally and worldwide, she specializes in corporate spaces in Toronto and Ottawa. Providing restful container garden installations for both indoors and out, along with festive, eye-catching Christmas trees and assorted arrangements designed to spread warmth and good cheer!
.
While the creative vision comes from Amber, this undertaking would not be possible without the dedication and assistance from fantastic employees and most importantly, her family. Her husband Ed is her right hand man, daughter Rosie the eye behind the lens, capturing moments artistically to preserve for all time. Sons Jonathan and Justin tend and schlep, haul and heave! The youngest Jeremy, a budding chef, can often be found in their country kitchen, whipping out meals such as lemon and thyme stuffed chicken and peach cobbler for dessert.
.
Riverwood’s hope is that infused in every bouquet, each event and all occasions that we are called upon to deliver, you feel our reverence for the use of this earth we are borrowing and our love for life!
